Data Science Intern – Core Telematics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Perform exploratory data analysis and data cleansing on extensive sensor datasets to uncover patterns, trends, labels, and data quality issues.

• Create visualizations and summaries that effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Develop and assess models aimed at detecting patterns or events within sensor data.

• Deliver clean, well-documented code and engage in code reviews with fellow data scientists and engineers.

• Record methodology, findings, and recommendations in Confluence.

• Examine real-world sensor data and driving event data gathered from millions of trips.

• Collaborate with data scientists and engineers from the exploratory analysis phase through to prototyping.

• Share findings with the larger team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.

• Proficient in Python (e.g. pandas, numpy) for data analysis and manipulation tasks.

• Familiar with data visualization tools (e.g. Matplotlib, Plotly, Folium).

• Basic understanding of statistics and exploratory data analysis methods.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, comfortable navigating ambiguous, real-world data.

• Demonstrates critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, eager to explore open-ended problems and pose insightful questions.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills for presenting technical work.

• Target Start Date: May/June 2027.

• Rising Junior or Senior status.

• Relevant coursework or project experience involving time-series or sensor data.

• Familiarity with SQL for querying large datasets.

• Exposure to machine learning concepts/libraries (e.g. scikit-learn, TensorFlow).

• Experience with Git or other version control systems in a collaborative environment.

• Familiarity with big data tools (e.g. PySpark) or geospatial data is advantageous.
