Data Governance Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee the creation, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the organization's data governance framework.

• Establish and uphold standards for data quality, ownership models, metadata management, and documentation of data lineage.

• Propel data classification and access control practices across various systems including case management, finance, and CRM.

• Set up and track data quality KPIs, collaborating with business stakeholders to address data quality challenges and their root causes.

• Offer practical guidance, training, and communication to colleagues, data owners, and stewards.

• Collaborate with the Data Protection Officer and pertinent business owners to ensure effective governance and adherence to regulations.

• Assist with GDPR compliance efforts, including Data Protection Impact Assessments and management of data utilized within the data estate, AI, and machine learning initiatives.

• Serve as the primary contact for all data-related regulatory and governance inquiries.

• Develop policies and standards governing third-party and AI vendor data management.

• Lead a cross-functional data governance forum, documenting and tracking decisions, actions, risks, and accountability until completion.

• Enhance data quality, adoption of governance frameworks, data ownership, GDPR compliance, visibility of data lineage, and governance of AI and third-party data usage.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, or enhancing data governance frameworks within a complex or regulated environment.

• Solid understanding of UK GDPR and its practical implications in a regulated setting.

• Familiarity with data cataloging, metadata, and data lineage tools, such as Microsoft Purview or comparable platforms.

• Knowledge of master data management principles and practices related to data quality management.

• Strong skills in stakeholder management and influencing, capable of engaging colleagues at all levels, including senior leadership.

• Proven ability to drive governance initiatives while balancing operational and business delivery priorities.

• Exceptional communication, facilitation, and relationship-building abilities.

• Awareness of established data management principles or frameworks, such as DAMA-DMBOK or equivalent best practices.

• Experience in sectors such as insurance, legal services, financial services, or other highly regulated industries.

• Understanding of Responsible AI principles, AI governance frameworks, and the risks tied to AI-enabled solutions.

• Experience in supporting governance requirements for machine learning and advanced analytics projects.

• Knowledge of SRA data handling obligations and insurer/corporate client data-sharing requirements is advantageous but not essential.
