This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Evaluate the legacy on-premises infrastructure supporting AccuWeather For Business and document the current architecture, its dependencies, data flows, and technical liabilities.
• Create cloud-native architectural designs and generate technical specifications along with implementation documentation.
• Lead the architectural strategy for the modernization project.
• Formulate a roadmap and sequencing plan to transition from the existing environment to the cloud-native architecture, ensuring minimal disruption for enterprise clients.
• Architect backend data systems that ensure the uninterrupted delivery of critical data services.
• Collaborate with engineering and data teams to validate and implement solutions that are secure, scalable, efficient, and maintainable.
• Engage in hands-on development and modification of code, data models, schemas, and components of the data platform.
• Assess data consumption, capacity, and infrastructure requirements, which includes estimating cloud infrastructure costs.
• Identify and document both architectural and operational risks, and formulate strategies to mitigate them.
• Address requirements related to performance, security, scalability, resiliency, recoverability, compliance, and data residency.
• Integrate system scheduling, dependencies, and integrations into planning and sequencing.
• Act as a technical contact for decisions regarding modernization architecture.
• BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, with 5+ years of experience in data or enterprise architecture, or an MS with 3+ years of experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of cloud platforms, such as Microsoft Azure, and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience in assessing legacy on-premises systems and designing modern, cloud-native architectures.
• Proven experience in planning or supporting large-scale modernization efforts for production, customer-facing platforms.
• Experience in designing production data platforms that prioritize performance, scalability, resiliency, and recoverability.
• Skilled in analyzing complex system dependencies, integrations, data flows, and scheduling needs.
• Demonstrated expertise with PostgreSQL, including relational data modeling, schema design, and query development.
• Advanced skills in Python or Go, with a track record of developing production-quality code for data platforms or backend systems.
• Experience in designing backend data platforms that cater to external or enterprise clients.
• Ability to evaluate technology and architectural choices, including build-versus-buy considerations and modernization strategies.
• Experience in assessing infrastructure needs and costs for cloud architectural decisions and design trade-offs.
• Familiarity with enterprise security, compliance, and data governance standards, including SOC 2 and data residency issues.
• Strong systems thinking capabilities.
• Exceptional written communication and technical documentation skills.
• Sound technical judgment.
• Capability to translate architectural designs into functioning solutions.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers.
• Competence to independently drive complex, large-scale architectural initiatives.
