Customs Project Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Implement project-specific tariff models based on Bill of Materials (BOM), routing, Incoterms, destination criteria, and regulatory guidelines.

• Determine overall tariff exposure and provide supporting calculations for duty-inclusive pricing, Estimate at Completion (EAC), and change-order billing.

• Deliver timely re-estimates whenever project scope, country of origin, or regulations alter duty implications.

• Update and convey customs-related cost-to-go and EAC using both forecasted and actual costs.

• Enter customs cost elements in the Cost Performance Management (CPM) system and ensure data accuracy, traceability, and alignment with project governance.

• Prepare and maintain customs estimate backups for audits, margin evaluations, and customer documentation requests.

• Identify strategies for duty mitigation and work alongside Customs teams for execution.

• Evaluate customs risks such as delays, penalties, demurrage, licensing challenges, and documentation deficiencies; develop mitigation strategies.

• Assist in planning to safeguard contractual delivery timelines and prevent liquidated damages arising from customs issues.

• Provide customs insights for change-order justifications, tariff reassessments, duty evaluations, and documentation.

• Support Project Managers during customer discussions related to duty alterations, classification decisions, and landed-cost implications.

• Supply project documentation that supports duty recoverability and compliance.

• Ensure that import documentation packages are accessible for third-party auditors.

• Guarantee that customs decisions are both traceable and auditable.

• Contribute customs input for margin evaluations, compliance audits, and verifications requested by customers.

• Develop initial project-specific customs strategies that align with sourcing and logistics plans.

• Track duty-rate fluctuations and evaluate their impact on future shipments, cost exposure, and customer commitments.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Trade, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Strong financial acumen and expertise with cost estimation tools, project financial tracking, and forecasting processes such as EAC and cost-to-go.

• Excellent analytical abilities to create precise and defensible cost models and documentation packages.

• Professional experience in Customs, Trade Compliance, or Project Management, preferably within manufacturing or heavy industry sectors.

• Familiarity with import/export regulations, HTS classification, COO/FTA rules, and customs documentation requirements.

• Proficiency in interpreting technical BOMs and understanding how product configurations affect costs.

• Capability to identify and mitigate customs-related risks while ensuring regulatory and customer compliance.

• Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Experience in complex, multinational project environments with specific contractual delivery requirements is preferred.

• Ability to operate independently, juggle multiple priorities, and ensure timely execution.

• Restricted to U.S. persons: U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act.

• Proof of U.S. person status is required prior to employment.

• Transfers and sponsorships are not available.

• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
