This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Develop and uphold embedded firmware that facilitates secure communications and cryptographic capabilities.

• Integrate and enhance the Nordic nRF54L Series AES-256 hardware accelerator within embedded firmware.

• Design, execute, and validate secure key management features for embedded devices.

• Establish and maintain a cryptographic testing laboratory to verify encryption, authentication, and key management processes.

• Create standardized testing procedures for device provisioning, key rotation, and fleet-wide cryptographic key updates.

• Collaborate with teams in hardware, firmware, cybersecurity, and systems engineering on secure embedded architecture solutions.

• Assist in hardware integration, firmware validation, and production readiness tasks.

• Engage in design reviews and contribute to discussions on security architecture.

• Document firmware designs, cryptographic workflows, and validation processes.

• Support customer demonstrations, laboratory testing, and occasional field integration tasks.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related STEM discipline.

• 3–6 years of experience in embedded firmware development using C/C++.

• Proven experience in developing firmware for embedded microcontrollers.

• Basic understanding of applied cryptography, including AES encryption, secure key storage, and authentication methods.

• Familiarity with embedded hardware peripherals and communication protocols such as SPI, UART, I2C, and GPIO.

• Experience in debugging embedded systems using standard development tools.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Capability to obtain a Secret security clearance.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.

• Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

• Preferred: experience with Nordic Semiconductor nRF54 Series microcontrollers.

• Preferred: experience in implementing hardware cryptographic accelerators or secure elements.

• Preferred: familiarity with secure boot, secure firmware updates, and device provisioning processes.

• Preferred: experience in developing key management or certificate management solutions.

• Preferred: familiarity with FIPS 140-3 or other embedded security standards.

• Preferred: experience supporting DoD or government technology initiatives.

• Preferred: active Secret security clearance.
