This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Evaluate legislative and regulatory requirements.
• Draft and interpret legal documents.
• Assess company policies to ensure compliance and reduce risk.
• Offer legal counsel and support as a business partner to align with company goals, strategy, and values.
• Examine vendor and partner contracts to pinpoint gaps in privacy controls and other obligations.
• Ensure adherence to contract terms.
• Analyze contracts for industry-standard IT Security language and enhance it where necessary.
• Identify data flows to and from third parties and confirm that contractual language is effective for those data flows.
• Review contracts for essential language concerning the use of Generative AI technology in the insurance sector.
• Assist in significant audits, including SOC 2 and other privacy-related evaluations.
• Manage contract negotiations, amendments, and renewals directly with vendors.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to implement Data Processing Addendums and Business Associate Agreements.
• Review and draft modifications to intricate insurance contracts.
• Partner with Finance to ensure vendor contracts align with budgetary constraints.
• Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
• Knowledge of HIPAA and state and federal data privacy regulations.
• Experience in contract law and contract drafting.
• Familiarity with SaaS contracting.
• Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
• Capability to serve as a key business partner.
• Proficiency in analytically interpreting statutes, regulations, insurance policies, and contracts.
• Interpersonal skills to be regarded as a trusted advisor.
• Decision-making skills to establish work priorities and provide recommendations.
• Strong negotiation and diplomacy abilities.
• Unquestionable integrity, a robust work ethic, strong business sense, and sound judgment.
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in a US State bar.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a practicing lawyer.
• Equivalent military experience is acceptable.
• Preferred: Over 5 years of experience as a practicing lawyer.
• Preferred: Background in insurance regulation or a highly regulated industry.
• Preferred: Experience with federal and/or state regulatory requirements governing Life, Disability, Dental, Supplemental, and/or Absence and Leave Management Insurance products.
• Preferred: CIPP Certification.
