This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Execute grammar, spelling, usage, punctuation, syntax, and style in accordance with departmental, client, and industry standards.
• Maintain uniformity and consistency across assessment components while identifying errors throughout the workday.
• Implement client style guidelines and address any necessary deviations; create or adjust client style guidelines as required.
• Oversee the scope of copyediting and raise concerns when requests exceed the defined scope.
• Comply with quality assurance, quality control, and review protocols.
• Acknowledge the consequences of editorial mistakes on item/test validity, reputation, and program risks.
• Utilize educational assessment principles while considering interactions among passages, items, metadata, accommodations, and other elements.
• Employ Pearson-preferred applications and platforms to support publishing workflows.
• Identify or create digital job aids and documentation; provide training for colleagues as necessary.
• Assist in staff training, mentoring, seminars, and provide one-on-one support.
• Collaborate with Editorial, Asset Services, Content, CDS, Pearson, and other departments.
• Contribute to checklists, process documents, fact-checking, item writing, scoring checks, and cross-functional initiatives.
• Act as lead editor when assigned and coordinate with Content, Program Teams, and other departments.
• Develop training/process documents and work logs; review and approve schedules.
• Coordinate the work of editors, monitor schedules, track assets, and communicate status, scope changes, risks, issues, defects, deadlines, resources, and overtime needs to the manager.
• Make final editorial decisions as the lead editor and escalate issues as necessary.
• Utilize AI tools to create, review, and enhance assessment content while providing appropriate editorial oversight.
• Attend meetings, complete administrative tasks, support efficiency initiatives, and offer training to vendors or contractors when suitable.
• Identify and escalate issues; balance cost, efficiency, schedule impact, and quality when prioritizing tasks.
• Advocate for new technologies, tools, and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Maintain responsive communication, schedule time off following protocol, arrange backup coverage, and collaborate effectively.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., literature, language, journalism) or equivalent certification/on-the-job training.
• At least three years of editorial experience.
• Minimum of two years of experience in educational assessment.
• Strong proficiency in end-to-end copyediting, including spelling, grammar, terminology, punctuation, syntax, diction, and usage.
• Ability to interpret and apply major style and usage references, such as the Chicago Manual of Style, Gregg Reference Manual, and Garner’s Modern English Usage.
• Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and Excel.
• Basic knowledge of HTML/XML for web publishing.
• Adaptability to evolving software and requirements.
• Understanding of educational assessment principles, including content standards, alignment, validity, and item-level statistics.
• Familiarity with assessment design interactions, including passage–item relationships, item types, metadata, and accommodations.
• Knowledge of assessment best practices, such as universal design, plain English, and accessibility design.
• Strong comprehension of copyright law as it applies to assessment.
• Proficiency with Pearson-preferred applications and platforms like ABBI, eStyle, and Oracle, including publishing workflows involving XPRT/TN8, XML, and MathML.
• Skilled in AI-supported content development, including prompting, refining, and evaluating AI outputs.
• Clear and respectful communication, constructive feedback, sound judgment, organization, reliability, adaptability, and professionalism.
