Controller – Multi Unit Retail

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the complete migration from QuickBooks to NetSuite in collaboration with the implementation partner and internal team.

• Develop the chart of accounts, entity and location framework, and reporting segments for a retailer with multiple stores and channels.

• Manage integrations with point of sale systems, Shopify, banking, payroll, and inventory management systems.

• Create inventory accounting strategies for high SKU turnover, trade-ins, consignment, and grading processes.

• Supervise data conversion, conduct parallel testing, manage cutover processes, and ensure post-go-live stabilization.

• Take responsibility for the monthly close process and deliver it on a consistent timetable.

• Generate store-level profit and loss statements and channel-level reports.

• Oversee inventory accounting and reconciliation across retail stores, warehouses, and e-commerce platforms.

• Manage cash flow, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking relationships, and lender reporting.

• Establish internal controls, documentation standards, and audit trails.

• Assist in due diligence by preparing normalized financial statements and addressing inquiries from investors and lenders.

• Collaborate with external CPA for tax and compliance matters.

• Report directly to the COO/CFO and work closely with the CEO.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including roles as a Controller or Assistant Controller.

• Extensive hands-on experience with NetSuite, including its implementation or leading a migration project.

• Experience in multi-entity and multi-location accounting.

• Strong background in inventory accounting within retail, e-commerce, or distribution sectors.

• Proven track record of independently managing the monthly close process and driving improvements.

• Comfortable in a dynamic environment where processes are still being developed.

• CPA designation is highly preferred.

• Background in specialty retail, e-commerce, or consumer products is strongly preferred.

• Experience in preparing a company for due diligence, financing, or transactional processes is strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with retail POS systems and Shopify is highly preferred.

• Knowledge of trading cards or collectibles is not mandatory.

• Ability to work remotely within the United States.

• Willingness to travel occasionally to the New Jersey headquarters for close cycles, planning, and the NetSuite cutover.
