This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Manage the entire U.S. accounting operations, which includes general ledger, accounts payable/accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory, payroll accounting, tax compliance, and financial closure.

• Lead accounting efforts across direct-to-consumer, wholesale, and marketplace channels.

• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, including revenue recognition, accruals, and reconciliations.

• Be responsible for consolidated financial reporting and reconciliation activities.

• Ensure that financial statements adhere to U.S. GAAP standards.

• Develop and enhance accounting policies, procedures, documentation, and internal controls.

• Verify the accuracy of inventory balances, cost structures, inventory reserves, and landed costs.

• Collaborate with Supply Chain and Operations on inventory controls, reporting, and decision-making.

• Analyze cost variances, landed costs, and margin performance.

• Oversee payroll accounting, including benefit deductions, commissions, bonuses, and equity compensation accounting where relevant.

• Collaborate with People & Culture and the PEO on payroll processes, systems, and controls.

• Supervise U.S. tax accounting activities and coordinate with tax provisions and external tax advisors.

• Ensure timely payroll tax, indirect tax, and regulatory filings.

• Lead annual financial statement audits or reviews and manage communications with external auditors.

• Strengthen internal control frameworks and facilitate process improvements.

• Implement AI and automation tools to shorten close timelines, expedite reconciliations, highlight exceptions, and minimize repetitive tasks.

• Direct outsourced and contracted sub-functions while managing external financial partners.

• Lead, mentor, and develop the internal accounting team.

• Collaborate with the COO/CFO and executive leadership on reporting, controls, financial insights, and strategic support.

• Build scalable processes and team structures.

• Work alongside Operations, Supply Chain, People & Culture, Commercial leaders, and executive leadership.

• Convey complex financial information to both financial and non-financial audiences.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

• An active CPA certification is required.

• An MBA, CMA, or CGMA certification is preferred.

• A combination of education, certification, and accounting leadership experience will be considered.

• At least 8 years of progressive accounting experience with increasing responsibilities and leadership roles.

• A minimum of 4 years of experience leading, mentoring, and developing accounting team members.

• Previous experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager is preferred.

• Experience in managing external financial statement audits, tax advisors, and other third-party financial partners, including outsourced or contracted accounting sub-functions.

• Comfort in operating hands-on within a small or lean team is essential.

• Proven experience utilizing AI tools for reconciliations, anomaly detection, reporting, or process automation.

• Background in consumer products, DTC/e-commerce, or apparel is preferred.

• Familiarity with multi-channel and marketplace revenue models, such as Amazon.

• In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting standards, payroll accounting, and related tax and compliance requirements.

• Advanced experience with ERP systems, preferably NetSuite, including reporting and system enhancements.

• Proficient Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling, reporting, data analysis, and complex formulas.

• Strong understanding of financial systems, automation, internal controls, and scalable accounting operations.

• Capability to partner with senior leadership, influence decisions, and articulate complex financial information effectively.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to manage competing priorities, uphold confidentiality, and excel in a fast-paced, growing environment.
