This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the daily accounting functions of CommonLit, which includes month-end closures, treasury operations, and ensuring compliance.
• Supervise two direct reports: the Finance & Accounting Coordinator and the Accounts Receivable Coordinator.
• Manage the month-end closing process aiming for completion in under 10 business days, encompassing reconciliations, variance analysis, and the preparation of financial statements.
• Supervise net asset and fund accounting, revenue recognition, chart of accounts, general ledger management, and financial systems.
• Conduct treasury operations, which involve bank transfers, daily cash positioning, payroll and benefits direct debits, and fraud-prevention measures.
• Collaborate with the VP of Finance on cash-flow forecasting, managing banking relationships, making investment decisions, and overseeing debt management.
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations, manage audits, vendor relationships, internal controls, grants management, and donor reporting compliance.
• Evaluate the work of the Finance team, providing coaching, feedback, and opportunities for professional growth.
• Prepare monthly financial reporting packages and various ad hoc reports.
• Assist with annual budgeting, system implementations, procurement processes, RFPs, purchase orders, and contracts.
• A Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• Over 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a management or supervisory capacity.
• Experience in nonprofit accounting is preferred, particularly in areas such as grant compliance, restricted funds, and audit support.
• Familiarity with diverse revenue streams, including SaaS, professional services, or manufacturing cost accounting; experience in edtech, online publishing, or the software industry is a plus.
• Preferred experience with Sage Intacct or a similar ERP system.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Must be based in the U.S.
• Availability to work from 9 AM to 5 PM Eastern Time is required.
