This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports for leadership and the Board.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and track organizational performance against the budget, including variance and trend analysis.
• Oversee grant financial management, which involves budgeting, reporting, compliance, and monitoring funding requirements.
• Review and authorize financial transactions such as expense reports, invoices, journal entries, payroll transactions, and other accounting activities to ensure accuracy, proper coding, and adherence to policies.
• Monitor and supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, general ledger activities, and account reconciliations to maintain the integrity of financial records.
• Manage the outsourced accounting partner to ensure timely and accurate execution of accounting tasks as well as the monthly and annual closing processes.
• Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, financial procedures, and risk management practices.
• Lead the annual financial audit and act as the primary liaison with external auditors.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
• Cultivate relationships with auditors, banks, outsourced accounting providers, and other partners.
• Offer financial guidance and support to staff and organizational leaders.
• Identify and implement enhancements to financial processes, systems, controls, and reporting to bolster compliance, minimize risk, improve efficiency, and facilitate effective organizational decision-making.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
• CPA certification and/or a Master's degree is strongly preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial management experience in a nonprofit setting.
• Experience in managing general ledger activities, financial reporting, month-end and year-end closing processes, and audit preparation.
• Experience supporting annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Required experience with grant-funded organizations, fund accounting, activity-based accounting, job cost coding, or similar methodologies.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, financial compliance, and audit requirements.
• Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems; experience with Sage, BILL, and Concur is strongly preferred.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas and financial reporting tools.
• Experience optimizing financial systems and automated reporting tools to enhance efficiency and decision-making.
• Preferred experience in supervising and developing accounting or finance staff.
• Preferred experience managing outsourced accounting providers, external accounting firms, or third-party financial service partners.
