This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• The Consulting Veterinarian in Clinical Toxicology (CVCT) progressively acquires toxicology expertise through the staged training and mentoring process at APC.
• The CVCT is vital at the APC, managing cases involving animals exposed to potentially harmful substances.
• The work environment is dynamic, challenging, and well-supported to facilitate success.
• This role involves sharing knowledge with veterinarians, pet owners, and various stakeholders, including law enforcement, related to cases.
• Additionally, the CVCT provides guidance to support staff in managing APC cases.
• The CVCT also engages in projects and events designed to support APC operations, promote further education, and improve communication within the ASPCA.
• A solid grasp of veterinary clinical medicine coupled with a keen interest in toxicology is essential.
• Required veterinary licensure in the state of residence, such as DVM or VMD.
• Must secure a State of Illinois veterinary license within one year of employment.
• Up to 20% travel may be necessary, as onsite training and support are required for this position.
• A remote work agreement is mandatory for this regional remote CVCT role.
• To ensure optimal internet connectivity, a download speed of at least 30 Mbps, an upload speed of at least 4 Mbps, and a ping/latency around 120ms is required.
• Ability to manage emergency or challenging situations with compassion and consistency.
• Proficient in sound reasoning and decision-making.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with concerned, emotional, and anxious callers.
• Capability to de-escalate situations while maintaining professionalism during difficult or tense interactions.
• Ability to recognize different auditory tones.
• Skill in establishing and nurturing effective collaborative relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and the public.
• Ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Excellent active listening skills and the ability to quickly build rapport with callers.
• Commitment to maintaining a distraction-free, dedicated work environment.
• Enthusiasm for leading through complexity and change.
• Ability to recover swiftly from challenging situations while upholding professionalism.
• Comfort with remaining stationary, typing, and working at a desk for 8 or more hours.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in mathematics and dosage calculation comprehension.
• Proficient with technology and capable of working with multiple databases and programs rapidly.
• Familiarity with PCs, basic office and Windows software, email, and internet searches.
• Excellent internal and external customer service skills are required.
• A strong interest in toxicology is essential.
• Ability to interact effectively and exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations.
• Possession of excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• A strong motivation to uphold a high standard of care is crucial.
