
Consultant – Carbon Finance, MRV for Feeder-Level Solarisation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Create a technically sound and feasible framework that allows Feeder-Level Solarisation projects under PM-KUSUM to engage in carbon markets.
• Establish a Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) framework for accurate quantification, monitoring, and validation of GHG emission reductions stemming from FLS initiatives.
• Develop a transparent, fair, and financially viable carbon revenue-sharing structure for farmers, DISCOMs, implementing agencies, and other relevant parties.
• Analyze carbon market standards and methodologies pertinent to FLS projects and identify effective carbon credit generation strategies.
• Formulate emission accounting methodologies, monitoring protocols, reporting standards, verification necessities, and institutional frameworks.
• Determine the technical, institutional, and policy requirements necessary to activate carbon finance for FLS.
• Draft and submit inception, draft, and final versions of the MRV and carbon revenue-sharing frameworks.
• Deliver presentations of outcomes to IWMI and project collaborators while integrating feedback from IWMI and stakeholders.
• Assist in the creation of a scalable carbon finance model for feeder-level solarisation projects in India.
• A postgraduate degree or a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy, Renewable Energy, Power Systems, Environmental Sciences, Economics, or a related discipline.
• At least 15 years of relevant professional experience in the energy/power or renewable energy sectors.
• Proven experience in project management, policy development/advisory roles, and implementing extensive energy/renewable energy initiatives.
• Significant experience collaborating with the Government of India, State Governments, utilities/DISCOMs, regulators, and high-level stakeholders.
• Experience providing strategic counsel and engaging with senior bureaucrats, technocrats, and institutional partners.
• Comprehensive knowledge of power systems, renewable energy, solar energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable energy transitions.
• Solid understanding of the energy–water–agriculture nexus and rural energy systems.
• Exceptional strategic advisory, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Outstanding stakeholder engagement, networking, and communication skills, especially with senior government and institutional representatives.
• Capability to provide high-level technical and policy advice and convert research/evidence into practical recommendations.
• Strong leadership, coordination, and project management skills.
• Desirable: experience in solar irrigation, feeder-level solarisation, PM-KUSUM, or similar renewable energy initiatives.
• Desirable: familiarity with carbon markets/carbon finance policies, emissions reduction, and climate-resilient development.
• Desirable: a history of technical publications, policy reports, or presentations in the energy/renewable energy sectors.
