Compute Procurement Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Identify and secure GPU capacity globally across neoclouds, hyperscalers, colocation firms, data centers, and new market entrants.

• Establish a capacity pipeline in advance of demand and maintain a real-time overview of available resources.

• Manage relationships with suppliers and ecosystem partners, including operators, OEMs, integrators, and chip manufacturers such as NVIDIA.

• Oversee allocation discussions and access to roadmaps.

• Assess hardware, rack and node setups, interconnects, storage solutions, power density, cooling systems, and network structures.

• Negotiate terms for GPU-hour rates, capacity agreements, deposits, payment schedules, SLAs, and remedies.

• Direct compute expenditures which may reach billions of dollars.

• Visit sites to verify power, cooling, deployment readiness, and operator capabilities, providing go/no-go recommendations.

• Monitor compute pricing by GPU generation, geographical region, and contract duration.

• Formulate and advocate a thesis on compute market trends, translating insights into sourcing strategies.


⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of GPUs, rack systems, interconnects, power solutions, and cooling techniques.

• Capability to independently assess cluster setups and their suitability for various workloads.

• Proven experience in sourcing rare and high-cost capacity or hardware.

• Strong negotiation history with substantial budget oversight.

• Active monitoring of compute pricing and the ability to develop independent market perspectives.

• Willingness to travel frequently, internationally, and often on short notice.

• Proficiency in unit economics, total cost of ownership (TCO), and contract frameworks.

• Ability to create processes within a lean, high-trust environment while enjoying autonomy.

• Experience with neocloud or hyperscaler capacity is a plus.

• Existing relationships with NVIDIA or OEM allocations may be beneficial.

• Background in data center operations could be advantageous.

• Experience in commodity or energy markets may also be advantageous.
