This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop challenging computational scientific and engineering tasks to benchmark cutting-edge AI systems.
• Craft graduate-level challenges based on authentic scientific workflows.
• Create problems that necessitate specialized scientific software, simulations, result interpretation, experimental design, and data analysis.
• Design exact-answer computational tasks and strategic query/experiment tasks to reveal hidden insights.
• Evaluate each problem against leading AI models.
• Enhance problem designs until they achieve the desired level of difficulty.
• Author problem setups, oracle functions, and solution validators.
• Construct problems that prioritize reasoning, meticulous analysis, and non-obvious solutions.
• Operate independently while integrating feedback into problem designs.
• Advanced training in a relevant STEM discipline (MS, PhD, or equivalent research experience).
• Demonstrated proficiency with at least one specified scientific software library, as evidenced by research publications, open-source contributions, or professional experience.
• Strong skills in Python programming.
• Capability to work autonomously and refine problem designs based on constructive feedback.
• Comfort in a Linux/terminal environment with remote computing sandboxes.
• Availability for a minimum of 15–20 hours per week.
• Practical experience with open-source, domain-specific computational tools.
• Experience in addressing real research challenges using scientific software.
• Insight into software limitations, edge cases, and genuine sources of problem difficulty.
• H1-B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported.
• Preferred: experience across multiple specified domains or tools.
• Preferred: familiarity with benchmark or evaluation design.
• Preferred: background in scientific teaching or examination/problem-set design.
• Preferred: experience with computational reproducibility and containerized environments.
