Communications Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Assist in enhancing the visibility and influence of Epoch AI’s research.

• Report directly to the Lead Editor, Elliot Stewart.

• Collaborate with researchers throughout the organization to execute day-to-day communications.

• Oversee logistics for press inquiries and outreach for podcasts and speaking engagements, which includes coordinating calls, availability, and follow-ups.

• Ensure the accuracy of the automated media contacts list.

• Manage the production workflow for the Epoch Brief newsletter, covering formatting, scheduling, link-checking, and distribution.

• Write routine content such as event descriptions and speaker biographies.

• Create and schedule posts on X and LinkedIn using Typefully or a similar tool.

• Monitor social media replies and comments, highlighting items that need responses.

• Implement approved content updates on epoch.ai, including evergreen pages.

• Apply changes derived from SEO audits and optimization processes.

• Identify content that needs refreshing or correction.

• Execute approved paid advertising campaigns on X, LinkedIn, and Google.

• Schedule campaigns, manage budgets, interface with platform representatives, and track performance.

• Suggest and make adjustments to targeting, creative rotation, and budget distribution.

• Potentially write more extensive content, as well as edit and proofread in collaboration with the Lead Editor.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of two years of professional experience, with some background in communications, media relations, marketing, or a related field.

• Strong writing capabilities and the ability to produce clear, accurate short-form content swiftly.

• Competence in writing persuasively in an established voice.

• Experience in engaging with media through pitching, press coordination, or outreach activities.

• Familiarity with AI research.

• Exceptional organizational skills and follow-through.

• Dependability in managing designated workflows.

• Passion for coordination, logistics, and writing.

• Availability for working hours in the Americas, approximately UTC-8 to UTC-3.

• Professional-level proficiency in English.

• Preference for candidates who can travel for retreats.

• Nice-to-have: combined experience in communications and operations at a research institute, think tank, or nonprofit.

• Nice-to-have: practical experience in running paid social or search campaigns and reporting on their performance.

• Nice-to-have: knowledge of newsletter tools, Typefully or similar social scheduling platforms, basic CMS tasks, SEO, or AI-search optimization.

• Nice-to-have: engagement with the AI research, safety, or policy landscape.
