This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the strategy and implementation of initiatives to grow SPEND's organic audience through owned digital channels, emphasizing direct cultivation over conventional media outreach.
• Create and oversee a content schedule and editorial calendar that ensures SPEND publishes consistently and with intention.
• Develop and categorize SPEND's distribution list to effectively reach the appropriate audiences—researchers, policy analysts, state and district leaders, journalists, and field partners—with pertinent content for each group.
• Enhance SPEND's reputation as a technical subject matter expert through earned media and direct channel publishing.
• Improve SPEND's content and online presence for better discoverability in both traditional search engines and AI-generated results, recognizing that search now includes appearing in LLM responses, not just standard blue links.
• Create style guides, content templates, and review processes to ensure all external communications reflect a cohesive and recognizable SPEND voice.
• Work closely with the team to create communication materials that embody SPEND's objective, non-partisan stance as a technical subject matter expert—rather than as an advocacy organization or rapid-response quote provider.
• Experience in digital communications, content strategy, or a related field; a background in communications, journalism, marketing, or a similar discipline is preferred.
• Proven understanding of contemporary digital communications strategy, including organic audience development, multi-platform content management, and distribution list creation—distinct from traditional PR or media relations.
• Familiarity with SEO and generative engine optimization (GEO)—understanding how AI platforms like Gemini, ChatGPT, and Perplexity reference, recommend, or mention the organization during user searches; a genuine interest in the future of the web and its implications for organizations like SPEND.
• Excellent written communication skills with attention to editorial quality, formatting, and brand consistency.
• Capability to present technical content in an accessible manner without oversimplifying or editorializing.
• Proficiency in Google Docs, Google Slides, PowerPoint, or similar presentation tools, with an aptitude for customizing materials for diverse stakeholder audiences.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of an employment visa for new team members at this moment.
• Travel: Opportunity to travel approximately 6–8 times a year for in-person teamwork and engagement with external partners.
• Remote Work: Access to a quiet, professional remote work setting with a dependable, high-speed internet connection.
