Communications Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Change.org is on the lookout for a Communications Specialist to enhance the Change.org brand through earned media within French-language and conservative media sectors.

• Create and implement bilingual media strategies, pitching to both French-language and English national outlets across Canada.

• Establish and nurture relationships with journalists, identify petitions to elevate, prepare petition starters for earned media chances, and conduct media preparation.

• Act as the primary contact for all French-language communications within the team, managing incoming French-language media inquiries and producing bilingual press materials independently, without the need for translation support.

• Enhance Change.org Canada's credibility and presence among conservative and centre-right audiences.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in one or more of the following: journalism (news or broadcast, French or bilingual), communications at a PR agency serving francophone or bilingual clients, or advocacy communications with a conservative-aligned organization or campaign.

• Professional-level bilingual written and verbal communication skills in French and English.

• Understanding of conservative audience framing and the media landscape, including knowledge of the values, tone, and outlet preferences of centre-right Canadian audiences.

• Expertise in campaign storytelling rooted in journalistic principles: ability to identify the news hook, relatable hero, clear call to action, and craft a narrative that resonates.

• Proficiency in media strategy and timing—knows when to pitch, which contacts to prioritize, and how to sequence a campaign across earned, social, and email channels.

• Fluent and increasingly strategic. The candidate should be adept at utilizing AI tools to enhance research, drafting, and pitch personalization. While not required to lead AI initiatives, any strong resistance to using AI tools is disqualifying.
