• Oversee the Communications Team members and facilitate departmental meetings.
• Create, execute, and assess extensive communication plans tailored for the organization’s varied audiences in partnership with BLMP’s staff, consultants, members, and allied organizations.
• Collaborate closely with the Communications Strategist and Digital Organizer to spearhead a content strategy that resonates with audience segments, while developing and implementing a narrative strategy that supports Black liberation, Black migrant justice, and the abolition of the carceral state.
• Guide and mentor the communications team in website management, working with the Communications Strategist to ensure timely posting of new and consistent content (article links, stories, and events).
• Oversee the creation, distribution, and upkeep of all print and electronic materials, including but not limited to newsletters, brochures, annual reports, and the website.
• Enhance the BLMP brand and visual identity, manage media contact lists, and supervise the departmental budget.
• Establish rapid response and crisis communication protocols.
• Act as a representative of BLMP in communications-focused movement spaces and coalitions, integrating BLMP’s narrative strategy into the broader movement narrative.
• A minimum of 10 years of communications experience, preferably in a leadership role within a nonprofit setting, covering aspects such as website content, newsletters, and donor communications.
• Demonstrated ability to transform knowledge into compelling and valuable messages, effectively distributing them to the appropriate audiences via optimal channels.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; adept at building and integrating organizational voice across various platforms, organizing and clearly sharing information, and keeping abreast of evolving tools and best practices.
• Highly collaborative, mission-driven relationship builder who values and incorporates feedback; a proactive self-starter comfortable with a participatory leadership approach.
• Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple deadline-driven projects simultaneously.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends during urgent response situations.
• Deeply passionate about Black liberation, Black migrant justice, and the abolition of the carceral state.
• Dedicated to centering and fostering the leadership of Black migrants and first-generation Black individuals who identify as TGNCI, women, femmes, and/or live with disabilities.
• Bilingual.
