Communications Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and execute comprehensive communication strategies (along with an annual strategic plan) that effectively articulate the organization's mission and enhance its reputation across multiple platforms, including social media, press releases, newsletters, and websites.

• Lead and oversee a diverse communications team, promoting collaboration and ensuring that the team's performance aligns with both organizational and departmental objectives.

• Create and uphold a consistent brand voice, guaranteeing that all messaging reinforces the organization's identity and values.

• Build and maintain relationships with media representatives, influencers, and community leaders to encourage positive coverage and engagement.

• Prepare for and manage crises effectively, ensuring consistent messaging to safeguard the organization's reputation during challenging situations.

• Supervise the creation of various content types (written, visual, digital) tailored to specific audiences to optimize engagement and impact.

• Assist CEO in thought leadership initiatives, including speeches, articles, presentations, and media opportunities.

• Develop systems to communicate lending activities, borrower success stories, Native CDFI impact, and investment outcomes.

• Formulate and implement communication strategies that support Oweesta's capital development, investor engagement, philanthropic partnerships, and strategic growth initiatives.

• Promote Oweesta's efforts to enhance public understanding of Native CDFIs, Native economies, and Indigenous economic sovereignty.

• Position Oweesta leadership and partners as subject matter experts through earned media opportunities.

• Manage editorial calendars, newsletters, publications, annual reports, impact reports, and digital storytelling initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field, preferably within Native-serving, community development, financial, philanthropic, or mission-driven organizations.

• A Bachelor’s degree in communications (or another relevant area), or equivalent experience is preferred.

• Proven experience in developing communication strategies that support fundraising, capital deployment, philanthropy, advocacy, policy initiatives, economic development, community development finance, impact investing, or mission-driven organizations.

• Experience in supporting executive thought leadership, media relations, and public speaking engagements.

• Background in working with Native organizations, Tribal Nations, Native CDFIs, or Indigenous-serving organizations.

• Experience in managing communications staff, consultants, or agency partners.
