This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.
• Directs the underwriting team to foster profitable portfolio expansion and achieve robust business outcomes.
• Makes conclusive decisions on intricate accounts and offers guidance on difficult risks.
• Oversees team workload, performance metrics, and overall portfolio results.
• Ensures that pricing is consistent with the risk quality throughout the portfolio.
• Enforces corporate and regional underwriting standards and processes.
• Monitors agent performance and directs underwriters/agents to accomplish annual targets.
• Executes strategies to enhance profitability and addresses performance deficiencies.
• Provides advice on complex accounts, communication strategies, and agency-related challenges.
• Develops, manages, and strengthens relationships with agencies; revitalizes underperforming partners.
• Educates agents on products, risk appetite, and systems to encourage quality submissions.
• Identifies opportunities and challenges within agency relationships; collaborates with marketing to improve experiences.
• Leads the recruitment, coaching, training, and development of the underwriting team to ensure uniformity and growth.
• Works with regional leadership to roll out underwriting updates and business strategies.
• Manages audits, the Letter of Authority process, and compliance for both new and renewal business.
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in insurance or business administration, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Six years of experience in commercial lines underwriting or a related field.
• Preferred insurance designations include CPCU and CIC.
• Comprehensive knowledge of underwriting and risk assessment.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
• Capability to manage multiple projects while adhering to deadlines.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
• Strong leadership qualities and the ability to inspire the team.
• Outstanding customer service skills.
• A valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record according to company standards is required if driving.
