This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Responsible for selecting, cultivating, and sustaining a profitable portfolio within an assigned middle market territory, in line with underwriting authority.

• Assesses intricate accounts, encompassing various business operations, multiple lines of business, or unique pricing needs for risk evaluation and pricing.

• Evaluates exposure, company and regional risk appetite, account premiums and loss history, financial data, lines of business, pricing guidelines, motor vehicle records, online resources, premium audit reports, Loss Control information, and other pertinent data to underwrite policies.

• Proposes suitable coverage, conditions, and terms for identified exposures.

• Builds and nurtures relationships with agencies.

• Informs agents about EMC products, underwriting appetite, systems, and services.

• Visits agencies to discuss accounts and provide updates from EMC.

• Identifies opportunities and potential obstacles within agency relationships.

• Collaborates with marketing representatives to ensure agents receive exceptional customer service, responsiveness, and choose EMC as their preferred insurer.

• Clearly communicates risk acceptance and/or rejection decisions to agents.

• Solicits feedback from agents and takes action to enhance their experience and develop robust books of business.

• Coordinates with marketing and regional management during the agency planning and review processes.

• Tracks the progress of assigned agents and assists them in reaching their annual objectives.

• Acts as a technical resource for members of the underwriting team.

• Conducts peer reviews of work by less experienced underwriters and provides training on identified challenges and improvement areas.

• Researches and disseminates information regarding industry changes, competition, target markets, and new products.


⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree, preferably in insurance or business administration, or an equivalent relevant experience.

• A minimum of three years of experience in commercial lines underwriting or a related field.

• Preferred insurance designations include AINS, AU, CIC, or CPCU.

• Comprehensive knowledge of underwriting and risk assessment.

• Strong analytical and negotiation skills.

• Excellent problem-solving abilities with sound decision-making skills.

• Capacity to work collaboratively and independently.

• Ability to uphold high standards of professional competence.

• Exceptional customer service skills.

• Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and social media.

• Capability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking proficiency.

• Preferred strong presentation skills.

• Willingness to travel occasionally; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report in accordance with company standards is required if driving.
