This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Risk Evaluation: Assess and analyze health insurance applications to determine their associated risks, aiding in the establishment of premium rates that are both equitable and competitive.
• Claims Examination: Analyze and interpret claims data to guide underwriting decisions and necessary policy modifications.
• Team Collaboration: Partner with sales teams to create competitive insurance products and strategies, ensuring they align with both company objectives and client requirements.
• Policy Creation: Contribute to the formulation of insurance policies or recommend modifications to existing policies that balance market demands with the risks faced by the insurance company.
• Compliance with Regulations: Stay informed about legislative changes and regulations that could influence product design and underwriting practices.
• Record Keeping: Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation of underwritten policies and the rationale behind decisions, including tracking concessions and experiences.
• Communication: Liaise with brokers and agents to obtain additional information or clarify underwriting choices.
• Education: A bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline is required.
• Credentials: Professional actuarial credentials (such as ASA, FSA) are mandatory.
• Experience: At least 5 years of experience in commercial health insurance underwriting (excluding Medicare, Medicaid, or individual market/ACA plans).
• Experience collaborating with sales teams in competitive contexts is highly preferred.
• Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in statistical analysis and risk evaluation.
• Ability to interpret intricate data and make sound decisions.
• Familiarity with underwriting software and tools.
• Preferred qualifications:
• Advanced actuarial credentials (e.g., ASA or FSA).
• Experience in large group health insurance underwriting for fully insured businesses.
