This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +7 more states.
• Lead the negotiation, redlining, and finalization of all inbound vendor agreements, including contracts with technology vendors, service providers, data processors, and various third parties across a full spectrum of agreement types (SaaS, DPAs, NDAs, and professional services, licensing).
• Take charge of all outbound customer and sales contracts: manage the contracting process for Givebutter's revenue-generating agreements, encompassing enterprise customer terms and service agreements.
• Establish the contracting infrastructure: create and maintain templates, playbooks, fallback positions, and self-serve tools that empower operations and sales teams to expedite processes while minimizing legal bottlenecks.
• Implement and enhance AI-driven legal workflows: leverage AI tools, AI agents, and agentic workflows for contract analysis, clause examination, and negotiation assistance; continuously refine the legal operations tech stack to optimize efficiency without compromising quality.
• Oversee the contract lifecycle: manage the entire process from intake to execution, including monitoring obligations, renewal dates, and crucial terms within the portfolio.
• Assist in partnership agreements: provide support to the General Counsel on strategic partnerships, which include payment processor relationships, platform integrations, and channel partnerships.
• Draft and negotiate related partnership documents: manage supporting agreements, amendments, and operational terms that arise from partnership relationships.
• Act as the primary legal advisor to the product team: contribute to our Product Roadmap by proactively identifying expansion opportunities and advising Product, Design & Engineering (PDE) on compliance-by-design for new features, payment processes, and data practices.
• Collaborate with the General Counsel and Security & Compliance Manager on compliance issues: assist with regulatory filings, licensing inquiries, privacy compliance, and consumer protection matters as they emerge.
• Provide guidance on marketing and commercial claims: evaluate marketing materials, competitive positioning, and customer-facing disclosures for potential legal risks.
• Assist the General Counsel with corporate tasks: support corporate governance, equity issues, and board-level projects as necessary.
• Aid in managing claims and disputes: help handle claims, demand letters, and escalated customer disputes under the direction of the General Counsel.
• Participate in the development of the legal team: contribute to building processes, documentation, and institutional knowledge that will grow alongside Givebutter.
• A Juris Doctor (J.D.) and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 5–7 years of legal experience, particularly with significant time spent in-house at a growth-stage fintech company (experience at a payments company or fundraising platform is highly preferred).
• Proven track record in high-volume commercial contracting execution.
• Experience in building contracting systems and infrastructure.
• Knowledge in product counseling within a high-growth tech environment.
• Practical application of legal technology and AI tools.
