This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Oversee capacity planning and forecasting for the OpenShift Virtualization platform, focusing on compute, memory, storage, and network resources.
• Evaluate resource utilization patterns and suggest infrastructure scaling, consolidation, or optimization strategies.
• Work collaboratively with application teams and stakeholders to assess future demand and capacity requirements.
• Create and maintain capacity models and comprehensive reports.
• Design automation solutions for configuration adjustments, VM management, auditing, remediation, and integration with ticketing systems.
• Automate operator updates and modifications at scale.
• Apply Site Reliability Engineering principles to enhance platform stability, performance, and efficiency.
• Implement and review role-based access controls.
• Administer namespaces and resource quotas for CPU, disk, and storage.
• Establish and uphold end-to-end monitoring, logging, and tracing for the OpenShift Virtualization environment.
• Incorporate observability with Dynatrace and Prometheus/Grafana.
• Investigate Event Driven Architecture for real-time monitoring and response capabilities.
• Detect observability anomalies and blind spots.
• Conduct root cause analysis throughout the global compute environment.
• Actively monitor VM health, resource utilization, and performance metrics.
• Keep an eye on unusual activities that may indicate compromise or misconfiguration.
• Offer technical consulting to application teams that require OpenShift Virtualization solutions.
• Design, implement, and validate tailored or dedicated OSV clusters and VM solutions.
• Develop and maintain both internal documentation and customer-facing Ford documentation content.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• A minimum of 5 years in IT infrastructure and VMware.
• At least 2 years of experience specifically in Kubernetes and/or OpenShift Virtualization.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or GitOps.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.
• Demonstrated experience in engineering, administering, and automating VMware and OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt) within production environments.
• Strong grasp of VMware and Kubernetes concepts.
• Experience in Linux administration and foundational networking principles.
• Proficiency in Bash or Python scripting for automation purposes.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Dynatrace, along with logging solutions.
• Solid understanding of virtualization concepts and technologies.
• Ability to diagnose complex issues across various layers of the stack.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Preference for familiarity with software-defined networking and software-defined storage.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
