This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Facilitate orientation sessions for new abstraction team members regarding medical records.
• Oversee the green-lighting process and the completion of ongoing IRR, addressing any performance issues in partnership with the Clinical Services Lead and escalating concerns to the Senior Manager/Manager.
• Efficiently handle fallout review, exception, occurrence reporting, and the Second Look process to ensure accurate reporting, collaborating with the Clinical Services Lead for partner notifications and reviews.
• Provide follow-up feedback and education to the project team on quality issues or trends identified during greenlighting, ongoing IRR, second looks, pre-submission cleaning, and project quality trend reviews.
• Work in conjunction with the Clinical Services Lead and Senior Manager/Manager to pinpoint quality trends in the data concerning internal team performance, as well as identify hospital quality trends to communicate with partners.
• Mentor and train new hires during their onboarding process at assigned facilities.
• Maintain and distribute abstraction team support documents, such as Measure Detail and Documentation Clarification Forms, regularly updating them with new measures and/or partner EMR changes.
• Conduct the first pass of pre-submission cleanup, updating cases when missing documentation is received.
• Serve as the subject matter expert in the assigned registry or measure, providing expert abstraction support – 15% - 20% abstraction.
• Perform additional quality tasks as assigned.
• Participate in new partner orientation to onboard new team members as they join the project.
• Collaborate closely with the Clinical Services Lead for case-specific inquiries as necessary.
• Undertake other partner tasks as delegated by the Clinical Services Lead or the Senior Manager/Manager.
• Minimum of 2 years of direct data abstraction experience in the Adult National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP).
• Experience in abstracting procedure-targeted cases.
• Possession of SCR (Surgical Clinical Reviewer) Certification.
• Surgical nursing background is preferred.
• Familiarity with various patient medical record systems (EMRs) and clinical databases.
• At least 1 year of experience providing coaching and guidance to teams is preferred.
• Credentials such as RN, LPN, RT, RVT, or RCIS are preferred.
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
• Exhibits high standards for accuracy and attention to detail.
• Shows technical proficiency and a strong eagerness to learn new systems and technologies.
• Excels in working independently and takes initiative on projects.
• Communicates consistently and clearly, adapting style and tone as necessary to effectively collaborate with hospital partners, colleagues, abstractors, and others.
• Demonstrates strong self-organization and time management abilities to manage multiple accounts concurrently, adjusting as needed to changing timelines and priorities.
• Adapts well to changes in project timelines, requirements, and assignments.
• Maintains a high level of responsibility for keeping PHI secure and confidential.
