This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Non-medical counseling services focus on addressing various conditions that may require clinical attention, specifically adjustment disorders.
• Conduct client intake, screening, assessment, and make appropriate referrals.
• Offer individual, couples, and group counseling sessions.
• Carry out thorough assessments of clients' presenting issues and devise effective treatment plans.
• Inform clients about available Navy programs, including in-person NMC Counseling Services at various installations.
• Deliver immediate interventions and risk assessments in accordance with best practices in the mental health field and provide education.
• Ensure proper referral and follow-up for any cases indicating suicidal or homicidal risks.
• Engage in regional quarterly quality assurance activities to guarantee that all clinical services are safe and of high quality.
• Maintain counseling case documentation in the FFSMIS Clinical Counseling Record System for all non-medical counseling assessments and services in compliance with relevant policies, laws, and regulations.
• Facilitate warm handoffs to the Family Advocacy Representative or FAP Victim Advocate for clients seeking to make a restricted domestic abuse report.
• Facilitate warm handoffs to the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator or SAPR Victim Advocate for clients wanting to make a restricted sexual assault report.
• Respond to crisis situations by utilizing sound professional judgment, ethical practices, and common sense.
• Provide temporary surge support (via phone and Navy-authorized virtual platforms) across additional Navy regions as needed when case numbers rise.
• Oversee SAIL case management: Receive both Command and non-Command referrals and initiate contact with referred Sailors to inform them about the SAIL program.
• Conduct initial clinical assessments and ongoing risk assessments using the Columbia Suicide Severity Risk Scale (C-SSRS).
• Implement ongoing safety planning utilizing the Veterans Affairs Safety Plan.
• Collaborate closely with Sailors’ Commands, providing regular updates on sailor risk, safety, and recovery progress in line with DoDI 6490.08.
• Deliver clinical case management to Sailors enrolled in SAIL following established protocols and procedures.
• Ensure that enrolled Sailors are connected to behavioral health providers and other supportive resources throughout their engagement with SAIL.
• Exhibit the ability to intervene in crisis situations using sound professional judgment, ethical practices, and common sense.
• Maintain SAIL case documentation in accordance with applicable policies, laws, and regulations.
• A Master’s degree in counseling accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs.
• A Master’s degree in social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
• A Master’s degree in marriage and family therapy accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Marriage and Family Therapy Education.
• A doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology.
• Completion of a one-year clinical internship accredited by the American Psychological Association.
• Current, valid, and unrestricted clinical license or certification from a state or U.S. territory permitting independent clinical practice in professional counseling, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, or clinical/counseling psychology - LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist), LCP (Licensed Clinical Psychologist/Licensed PhD in Psychology), LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), LCPC (Licensed Certified Professional Counselor), or LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor).
• At least two years of full-time, post-master’s supervised clinical experience.
• Minimum of two years providing case management to clinical clients.
• Over one year of experience delivering clinical services via a telehealth platform.
• At least six months of experience assessing clients for suicidality, managing crises with suicidal clients, and implementing safety plans.
• Familiarity with standard documentation requirements for clinical services.
• Ability to identify resources and facilitate warm handoffs.
• Comprehensive knowledge of clinical and non-clinical support services for clients, enabling appropriate referrals to relevant agencies or organizations.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively; capable of handling a caseload of 25-30 and completing all documentation within 48 hours.
• Ability to thrive in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
• Experience working effectively with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Proficiency in oral and written communication skills, particularly in case management and clinical documentation.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software and adept in the use of office applications.
• Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of a military installation.
• Must have a dedicated professional workspace that provides a secure, private environment suitable for telehealth clinical services, free from distractions or personal commitments during work hours.
• Flexibility to assist clients across time zones, including the ability to respond to surge assignments or travel requests with little notice.
