This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Collaborate with the Deputy Managing Director of Research to formulate and implement the overall strategy for the Climate Urgency campaign as well as the opposition research strategy targeting relevant agency heads and key officials within the administration.
• Act as a representative for the department in organization-wide meetings and planning sessions related to the Climate Urgency campaign.
• Keep abreast of developments within the sector by monitoring relevant federal agencies, such as FEMA, NOAA, NWS, and USFS.
• Create an opposition research strategy aimed at key agency heads and important administration officials.
• Supervise and mentor a Senior Research Associate, overseeing daily responsibilities and contributions to long-term research initiatives.
• Collaborate across the organization, working directly with the Climate Urgency campaign to manage research-informed projects within this area.
• Oversee the Senior Research Associate’s tracking and reporting on developments in the home insurance industry, including financial disclosures and earnings calls.
• Partner with collaborators on opposition research efforts and manage the work of relevant consultants in this area.
• Produce actionable research that can be utilized in communication materials, media outreach, and campaign strategies to hold powerful interests and individuals accountable.
• Generate polling and advertisement backups in this issue area on tight deadlines, conduct fact-checks, and approve relevant content for external materials.
• Work alongside the Research Deputy Managing Director and Communications team to present research findings to media organizations.
• Prepare reports, fact sheets, background documents, and other research and communication materials related to Climate Urgency, while also engaging in rapid response activities.
• A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in political research, which may encompass work for a campaign or issue advocacy organization.
• Relevant experience may include, but is not limited to: Opposition research at a campaign, campaign committee, or PAC; working on energy/climate policy or corporate accountability issues within a political, advocacy, or policymaking context; or serving as an analyst or journalist focused on extreme weather or climate change.
• At least 3 years of experience in people and/or project management, showcasing success in leading departments and diverse teams while effectively managing complex projects.
• Proven experience in opposition research and the creation of impactful original research.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a variety of individuals, communities, and partners.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational capabilities with a demonstrated track record of meeting deadlines and managing competing priorities with minimal supervision.
• Sound news judgment and a comprehensive understanding of the political media landscape.
• Familiarity with research tools, including LexisNexis, public records, and campaign finance documents.
• Proficiency in Google Workspace and Airtable is preferred.
• A keen interest in climate justice is an additional asset!
