Civil/Structural Forensic Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Conduct thorough investigations into accidents or disasters to ascertain causes and contributing factors.

• Assess damage to structures or water impacts resulting from natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, wind events, hail storms, or floods.

• Ensure appropriate maintenance and construction of affected building systems and components.

• Safely access roofs, attics, and crawl spaces to document areas of interest through photographs.

• Identify and interview witnesses and/or other key individuals involved in the events.

• Prepare and submit findings and recommendations to aid in resolving insurance claims or litigation matters.

• Conduct site evaluations, field analyses, and assessments of structural and architectural systems, including roofing and foundation systems.

• Provide general guidance for remediation and repair efforts.

• Execute structural failure analyses and assess damage resulting from various catastrophic events.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active Professional Engineering license(s) is mandatory.

• A degree in civil or structural engineering or a related field is required.

• Proven experience in conducting forensic investigations to identify the cause and origin of site issues.

• Experience in performing site evaluations, field analyses, and assessments related to structural and architectural systems, as well as low/steep-slope roofing systems and foundation systems.

• Familiarity with evaluating failures due to hail damage, wind damage, moisture intrusion, flooding, building envelope failures, and general construction defects.

• Demonstrated experience in providing recommendations for remediation and repair solutions.

• Background in structural failure analysis and assessing damage from hurricanes, tornadoes, ice, wind, snow, fires, explosions, blasting, construction vibrations, and differential foundation movement.

• Knowledgeable about building materials, codes, construction methods, and common failure modes.

• Capability to access roofs, attics, and crawl spaces effectively.

• Ability to meet tight deadlines consistently.

• Readiness to accept assignments and conduct site inspections within 5–7 days.

• Proficiency with various software platforms, tools/equipment, and investigative techniques.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong analytical skills coupled with an effective problem-solving mindset.
