CBAM Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Leverage your expertise in CBAM and carbon border compliance within a dynamic new sector. Assist us in establishing a solid foundation for CBAM verification. You will serve as our internal expert on the calculation, monitoring, and reporting of embedded emissions in accordance with the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, ensuring the precision and credibility that Isometric is renowned for.

• Conduct thorough investigations with exporters, importers, Verification and Validation Bodies (VVBs), and the market at large. Engage with non-EU exporters of CBAM goods, EU importers, and verification entities. Identify gaps in current reporting and verification processes, uncover real measurement challenges, and determine how a reliable, AI-driven platform can significantly enhance the speed and cost-effectiveness of accredited verification.

• Challenge and define excellence. Collaborate with our science, product, and commercial teams to investigate how CBAM verification can be measured and verified with greater rigor—utilizing the same Certify architecture we apply for carbon removal. Evaluate concepts against actual monitoring plans and submissions, while quickly learning from exporters, importers, and VVB partners.

• Assist in acquiring our initial customers and establishing VVB partnerships. Work closely with the commercial team to articulate our value proposition, engage with exporters, importers, and VVBs, and translate technical precision into reports and assessments that decision-makers can trust and are willing to invest in. You are equally adept at producing deliverables as you are at conveying their significance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Profound understanding of CBAM and carbon border compliance. You possess a technical grasp of CBAM (embedded emissions methodology, default values versus verified actuals, monitoring plans, and the sectors covered—steel, iron, aluminium, cement, fertiliser, hydrogen, and electricity), preferably from experience advising exporters and importers, working internally on compliance, or conducting verification/auditing for a VVB.

• Expertise in carbon accounting and verification integrity. You are well-versed in embedded emissions accounting (both direct and indirect), EU ETS benchmarking, and accredited verification standards, including the complexities such as data quality tiers, the gradual reduction of default values through 2030, and areas prone to manipulation.

• Proven track record of tangible results. Your work is respected within the industry. You have assisted exporters or importers in preparing CBAM declarations, successfully passing verification, or navigating the accreditation process—or you have provided consulting services that enable such outcomes.

• High agency with a commercial mindset. You can independently navigate and advance new areas despite significant ambiguity, exhibiting a strong inclination for action. You are passionate about discovery and serve as a valuable partner to the commercial team in shaping our offerings and winning initial customers and VVB partners.
