This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Develop and implement both short- and long-term communication strategies that align with catastrophe operations, business objectives, employee engagement, organizational change, and enterprise goals.
• Act as a trusted communications advisor to catastrophe leadership, offering strategic guidance, communication planning, and stakeholder engagement support.
• Craft and present executive messaging, speeches, presentations, talking points, announcements, FAQs, leader toolkits, stakeholder communications, and integrated campaigns across various platforms including email, SharePoint, intranet, Microsoft Teams, newsletters, leader cascades, and virtual events.
• Oversee operational communications during catastrophe events, issues, and emergency response scenarios.
• Create and disseminate catastrophe notifications, operational updates, situation reports, hurricane tracking communications, FAQs, resource materials, and stakeholder communications.
• Engage in catastrophe response calls and meetings to collect operational intelligence and coordinate communications before, during, and after events.
• Develop and disseminate communications tailored for leaders, employees, agents, and strategic partners.
• Manage communication strategies that support advisory boards, leadership and employee councils, as well as cross-functional stakeholder engagement.
• Provide strategic communications advice on high-profile, sensitive, and enterprise-impacting matters.
• Create feedback-loop and “we heard you” communication campaigns.
• Serve as a liaison among the National Catastrophe Team, Claims, Communications, Corporate Relations, and other business partners.
• Produce written, digital, and visual communications, including storytelling content, presentations, newsletters, infographics, dashboards, videos, and other materials.
• Administer and enhance SharePoint, intranet, Microsoft Teams, newsletters, and other enterprise communication channels.
• Utilize analytics, employee feedback, and emerging communication technologies to enhance stakeholder engagement and communication effectiveness.
• Lead communication projects of moderate to high complexity.
• Formulate communication plans and execution strategies for NCT initiatives and organizational priorities.
• Assess communication effectiveness through engagement metrics, analytics, employee feedback, and stakeholder insights.
• Foster cross-functional partnerships while implementing communication best practices, governance requirements, quality standards, and reputational considerations.
• Spearhead employee engagement, recognition, and storytelling initiatives that reinforce culture and showcase achievements, catastrophe response successes, customer impact, and organizational accomplishments.
• Support employee listening initiatives, feedback programs, advisory boards, and targeted communication plans.
• No direct supervisory responsibilities.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in professional communications, corporate communications, public relations, employee communications, or a related field.
• A bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Experience in developing communication strategies for large organizations and complex business initiatives is preferred.
• Background in supporting crisis communications, catastrophe operations, claims organizations, emergency response, issues management, or other high-visibility operational communications initiatives is preferred.
• Proven experience in aligning communications across multiple stakeholder groups during operational events, business disruptions, enterprise response activities, or periods of organizational change is preferred.
• A portfolio showcasing strategic communication, executive communications, or storytelling work may be requested.
• Previous leadership or management experience is preferred.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Experience in executive communications, storytelling, and presentation development.
• Strong project management and organizational abilities.
• Experience in supporting change management and employee engagement initiatives.
• Ability to excel in fast-paced, rapidly changing environments, balancing speed, accuracy, and sound judgment while managing multiple priorities and strict deadlines.
• Experience in supporting crisis communications, incident response, catastrophe operations, emergency response, issues management, or other high-visibility operational communications.
• Experience collaborating with various stakeholder groups to ensure message consistency, stakeholder alignment, and coordinated communication delivery during operational events.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, communication technologies, and digital management platforms.
• Familiarity with graphic design, multimedia content creation, intranet content management, and communication analytics is preferred.
• Knowledge of Associated Press Style.
• Willingness to travel in support of catastrophe operations as business needs arise.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specified education requirements.
• Background investigation is required.
