Building Consultant – General Contractor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Promptly receive and respond to assignments, generally scheduling inspections within a 24-hour timeframe.

• Perform comprehensive onsite property inspections, often in collaboration with engineers, within 7 days of assignment.

• Access rooftops, crawlspaces, and other difficult environments for thorough evaluations.

• Generate detailed photo reports, cost estimates utilizing Xactimate or similar software, and written reports within 7 days following the inspection.

• Work alongside Keystone’s Managing Building Consultant during the review and approval process.

• Address report feedback within 24 hours.

• Occasionally travel to conduct evaluations for CAT events.

• Engage in joint inspections.

• Communicate effectively with policyholders, engineers, and claim adjusters.

• Serve as an expert witness and provide testimony when necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Background in general contracting, construction, home remodeling, mitigation, or related fields.

• Current or previous contractor’s license, if mandated in your state.

• Practical experience with insurance-related repairs or claims estimating.

• Expertise in construction estimating methods, including time & materials and software-based systems.

• Proficiency or familiarity with Xactimate (desktop & mobile), Symbility, Matterport, DocuSketch, and Hover.

• Previous experience in preparing estimates and proposals, particularly for large-loss projects.

• IICRC certification and/or mitigation contracting experience is advantageous.

• Excellent written communication skills for creating detailed, professional reports.

• Ability and willingness to travel for field inspections and CAT events.

• Physical ability to conduct inspections, including accessing roofs and crawl spaces.

• Experience with expert testimony, depositions, or published industry articles is a plus.

• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of meeting deadlines.
