This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Overseeing and ensuring that HSI remains aligned with its mission and purpose.
• Guiding and approving HSI’s strategic plan.
• Acting as a trusted advisor to the CEO/President during the development and implementation of HSI's strategic plan.
• Reviewing the outcomes and metrics established by HSI for assessing its impact, while consistently measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; going over the agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings.
• Approving HSI’s annual budget, audit reports, and significant business decisions; staying informed of, and fulfilling all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
• Overseeing the recruitment and performance management of the CEO/President.
• Assisting the CEO/President and board chair in identifying, recruiting, and orienting new Board Members.
• Collaborating with the CEO/President and other board members to ensure the execution of board resolutions.
• Participating in committees or task forces and undertaking special assignments as needed.
• Managing and mitigating risks for HSI.
• Representing the Institute to stakeholders and serving as an ambassador for the organization.
• Ensuring that HSI is committed to maintaining a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities it serves.
• Significant professional experience with substantial executive leadership achievements in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.
• A strong commitment to and understanding of the Institute’s beneficiaries, ideally based on firsthand experience.
• Diplomatic skills and a natural talent for building relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and fostering consensus among diverse individuals.
• Personal attributes of integrity, credibility, and a dedication to enhancing the lives of the Institute’s beneficiaries.
• Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
• Service on HSI’s Board of Directors is voluntary and comes without remuneration, apart from administrative support, travel, and accommodation expenses related to Board Members’ responsibilities.
