This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Perform risk assessment and classification in accordance with Manulife's philosophy and standards.
• Provide proactive and reactive support to advisors and clients, especially for large life insurance cases exceeding $5 million.
• Foster sales growth through strong relationships with advisors and excellence in field underwriting practices.
• Draft detailed cover letters and respond to preliminary opinions and inquiries in a timely manner.
• Interact directly with clients to deliver tailored preliminary opinions.
• Collaborate with the National Field Underwriter and Head Office underwriters to ensure uniformity and high-quality decision-making.
• Maintain positive and effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including advisors, wholesalers, and other specialists.
• Keep abreast of industry trends and guidelines by participating in underwriting and sales team meetings.
• Manage client expectations by identifying undesirable risks and recommending alternative product solutions.
• Adhere to consumer laws and regulations concerning risk classification, confidentiality, and disclosure.
• Identify and suggest improvements to processes and customer experience.
• Develop and deliver presentations and hold regular in-person meetings to strengthen advisor relationships.
• Act as a representative for Manulife in external engagements.
• At least 15 years of experience as an underwriter, focusing on large life insurance cases over $5 million.
• Demonstrated success in underwriting with a sales and relationship-oriented approach.
• Strong knowledge of insurance products, financial and medical guidelines, and non-medical risks affecting mortality.
• Experience analyzing financial reports and training in anti-money laundering practices.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with advisors, wholesalers, and underwriters.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
• Excellent time management and organizational abilities, with a capacity to analyze complex information.
• Fully bilingual in French and English.
