This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Provide accurate and timely multi-state payroll for all exempt and non-exempt personnel.
• Serve as the main point of contact for daily payroll and benefits inquiries.
• Simplify complex policies into clear, supportive guidance for all levels within the organization.
• Ensure the timely and accurate transmission of employee 401(k) contributions to the plan provider in compliance with DOL and ERISA standards.
• Supervise benefits operations, including enrollments and status updates.
• Collaborate with People Ops leadership and benefits brokers to design and implement the annual open enrollment process.
• Oversee payroll registration, tax setup, and compliance renewals as the company expands into new states.
• Conduct internal audits of payroll and benefits records and lead external compliance audits.
• Maintain accurate employee profiles, compensation, and benefits information within the HRIS.
• Ensure seamless cross-platform workflows and dependable employee self-service tools.
• A minimum of 3 years of specialized experience in multi-state payroll and benefits administration within a fast-paced, high-growth, or startup setting.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, combined with a friendly demeanor and a service-oriented approach.
• Proven experience in managing multi-state payroll compliance, registering in new states, and adapting to changing labor and tax regulations.
• Direct, hands-on experience in leading or supporting internal data hygiene checks and external audits (401k, Workers' Compensation).
• Capability to handle sensitive compensation, financial, and benefits information with sound judgment, utmost discretion, and a strong commitment to confidentiality.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, Slack, and HRIS/Payroll platforms (Rippling).
• A natural ability to utilize automation to reduce tedious manual tasks and enhance systems.
• Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities under critical deadlines.
