Backend Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and manage essential platforms and shared services utilized by various engineering teams.

• Construct backend platform functionalities, including request routing, traffic management, data distribution, caching layers, asynchronous job processing, and robust event handling.

• Create high-throughput systems that ensure predictable latency and reduced operational overhead.

• Lead cross-team platform projects that span multiple quarters.

• Make informed technical choices and engage with stakeholders effectively.

• Enhance the internal developer experience.

• Guide engineers and influence engineering culture through contributions to code reviews, design assessments, and onboarding processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of six years of professional experience in backend or platform engineering.

• Proven experience in building and maintaining internal platforms or shared services used by various engineering teams.

• Strong practical knowledge in designing distributed systems with a focus on consistency, availability, latency, and failure-mode behavior.

• Advanced skills in at least one major backend programming language such as Java, Go, Scala, Rust, or modern C++.

• In-depth understanding of high-throughput messaging, streaming, and event-driven architectures utilizing Kafka, Pulsar, or NATS.

• Solid working knowledge of relational, key-value, document, and search storage systems.

• Experience in leading multi-quarter platform projects across teams, including stakeholder engagement and technical decision-making.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Capability to create technical design documents and clearly present trade-offs.

• Ability to mentor engineers and shape engineering culture through contributions to code reviews, design assessments, and onboarding activities.

• Preferred: Experience in Kubernetes-based platform operations or internal developer-platform initiatives.

• Preferred: Contributions to open-source platform or infrastructure initiatives.

• Preferred: Familiarity with control-plane/data-plane patterns, service mesh internals, or workflow orchestration engines.

• Preferred: Experience with platform APIs that maintain backward compatibility and versioning guarantees.
