This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Switzerland.
• Design, develop, and manage backend services utilizing Python.
• Create and sustain scalable ingestion and processing pipelines for scientific metadata and full-text content.
• Revamp existing intervention workflows and transition processes to Apache Airflow.
• Design and deploy robust REST APIs for internal applications, partners, and external tools.
• Enhance search functionalities with OpenSearch, including strategies for indexing and relevance adjustments.
• Assist in the integration of AI-driven retrieval solutions and logging services for model context.
• Elevate data quality through enrichment, deduplication, and automated processing workflows.
• Participate in the modernization of digitization and archiving services.
• Carry out large-scale data migrations while ensuring the consistency and quality of metadata.
• Create containerized applications and facilitate modern deployment processes.
• Implement automated testing, code reviews, monitoring, and CI/CD practices.
• Contribute to open-source software initiatives and support the open-science community.
• Hold a university degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, along with relevant professional experience.
• Possess strong professional experience in backend development with Python.
• Have hands-on experience with Python frameworks such as Django, Flask, and FastAPI.
• Demonstrate solid experience in designing and developing REST APIs.
• Have a strong understanding of relational databases like PostgreSQL and document databases.
• Possess practical experience with search technologies, including OpenSearch/Elasticsearch.
• Be familiar with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Understand asynchronous programming, automated testing, and best practices in software development.
• Have experience with large-scale data processing, metadata-driven systems, and data pipelines.
• Experience with Apache Airflow or similar workflow orchestration tools is advantageous.
• Knowledge of AI-driven retrieval systems and AI/LLM integrations is a plus.
• Familiarity with digital archiving, content management systems, or scholarly information platforms is beneficial.
• Exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving skills, focusing on the development of reliable, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
• Be a proactive, quality-oriented team player with a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to collaborate effectively in multicultural settings.
