Backend Engineer – Ranking

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Enhance the e-commerce experience for millions of users worldwide by designing, implementing, and maintaining high-load real-time web services in close partnership with fellow engineers.

• Develop, deploy, and support robust real-time systems powered by machine learning for search and browsing functionalities.

• Collaborate with both technical and non-technical business partners to create and refine ranking features.

• Create a Ranking Platform primarily for internal users, including Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers.

• Improve the performance of the existing ranking service to process requests more efficiently.

• Optimize the delivery and retrieval of signals (also known as Feature Store) for machine learning model inference.

• Engage with stakeholders within the team and across the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining high-load distributed real-time services in a cloud environment.

• Proficient in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform for managing cloud resources.

• Experience with MLOps is highly advantageous (including the delivery, loading, and serving of ML models and associated infrastructure).

• Practical experience in establishing and enhancing CI/CD pipelines.

• Strong proficiency in Python, and familiarity with compiled languages such as C, Rust, or Go is a plus.

• Background in server-side programming for web services, along with a solid understanding of API design principles.

• Experience with both NoSQL and relational databases, distributed systems, and caching mechanisms.

• Familiarity with any of the major public cloud platforms: ideally AWS, but also Azure or GCP.

• Experience working in cross-functional teams.

• Excellent communication skills in English.
