Backend Engineer – Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Sweden, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• The AppCore Stacks team is responsible for the systems that create, configure, reconcile, migrate, and manage Grafana Cloud stacks on a large scale.

• Our efforts lie at the crossroads of product development, platform management, and operational execution.

• We develop the control-plane services and workflows that ensure stack states are synchronized across grafana.com, Stack State Service (SSS), Hosted Grafana, cloud regions, and the foundational infrastructure of Grafana Cloud.

• Design, construct, and maintain reconciliation systems, including the SSS backend, to monitor the desired state of stacks, identify, and rectify discrepancies across stack templates, grafana.com states, Hosted Grafana, and actual customer stack configurations.

• Collaborate with SSS, grafana.com, and deployment configurations to maintain reliable, observable, and resilient stack lifecycle workflows.

• Enhance operational efficiency by minimizing deployment complexities (e.g., aiming for single PR regional SSS deployments) and contributing to the Stack Config Reconciliation initiative.

• Oversee rollout mechanisms for provisioned plugins, dashboards, data sources, Grafana versions, release channels, and stack-level configurations.

• Facilitate new region and cluster rollouts, including the operational processes necessary for bringing stacks online safely in new Grafana Cloud regions.

• Enhance incident response and recovery processes for stack misalignments, reconciliation failures, plugin rollout challenges, and integration issues with Hosted Grafana.

• Collaborate with Product, Hosted Grafana, Infrastructure, Support, and related AppCore teams on stack lifecycle initiatives that impact customers.

• Contribute to roadmap planning, technical design, OnCall enhancements, and the long-term simplification of stack operations.

• Take ownership of the production performance of the systems you create.
