
Backend Engineer – FastAPI, Neo4j, Databricks

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.
• Create and develop production-grade APIs and microservices using Python.
• Utilize Domain Driven Design to model the domain effectively.
• Integrate Neo4j for graph-focused projects, including optimizing Cypher queries and graph data modeling.
• Develop data engineering and machine learning workflows on Databricks.
• Handle geospatial and temporal data, which involves spatial indexing, time series analysis, and adherence to geospatial standards and tools.
• Ensure services are reliable, efficient, and secure, and monitor them while in production.
• Oversee features from technical discovery and design to implementation, testing, deployment, and runtime monitoring.
• Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to colleagues.
• Participate in architectural decision-making and proactively identify technical risks.
• Proficient in advanced Python, including writing clean idiomatic code, managing virtual environments, packaging, utilizing type hints, and applying async and await.
• Experience in production environments with FastAPI and async best practices.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design and common design patterns such as factory, strategy, repository, and dependency injection.
• In-depth practical knowledge of Domain Driven Design, including event-driven domain modeling.
• Expertise in RESTful API design, covering resource modeling, versioning, error handling, pagination, and OpenAPI specifications.
• Familiarity with event-driven systems using Kafka, MQTT, or Azure Event Hubs.
• Strong SQL skills with experience in PostgreSQL or SQL Server.
• Significant hands-on experience with Neo4j.
• Proficient in Docker, with a working knowledge of Kubernetes and comfort using the Linux command line.
• Experience with testing and CI/CD methodologies using pytest, TDD, and tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
• Knowledge of secure coding practices, including OWASP Top 10, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and JWT.
• Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English in an international context.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Azure DevOps, Key Vault, structured logging, Prometheus or Grafana, and OpenTelemetry tracing.
