Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage scalable backend systems that deliver AI-driven functionalities in a production setting.

• Create high-performance inference pipelines, orchestration workflows, and well-defined service boundaries around machine learning models.

• Take responsibility for system health and observability, encompassing performance monitoring, structured logging, alerting, and incident management.

• Enhance system latency and throughput through strategic caching, request batching, and response streaming techniques.

• Work closely with clients and machine learning engineers to provide stable, high-efficiency APIs for both mobile and desktop applications.

• Oversee the inference and orchestration layer that powers intelligent features across client platforms.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrable experience in core backend software engineering within production settings.

• Proficiency in Python and Node.js.

• Experience with infrastructure technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

• Practical knowledge in building and maintaining high-throughput, low-latency distributed microservices.

• Strong understanding of contemporary AI inference patterns, including large language models (LLMs), vector embeddings, and multimodal architectures.

• Hands-on experience in debugging and profiling complex distributed systems under high-load conditions.

• Acquainted with commercial AI APIs such as OpenAI and Anthropic.

• Familiar with self-hosted open-source models.

• Production-oriented mindset with a strong inclination towards shipping, monitoring live system performance, and rapid iteration.
