AWS Infrastructure Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, configure, and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure for enterprise applications.

• Provision and manage Development, Test, UAT, Pre-Production, and Production environments.

• Create scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant AWS architectures.

• Support containerized workloads utilizing Amazon ECS, EKS, or similar platforms.

• Design and manage VPCs, subnets, routing tables, gateways, security groups, and network ACLs.

• Establish connectivity between cloud environments, on-premises systems, and external services.

• Troubleshoot issues related to network connectivity, DNS, routing, firewalls, and application access.

• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.

• Automate provisioning, configuration, deployment, patching, and maintenance tasks.

• Support configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.

• Integrate infrastructure deployment into CI/CD pipelines and facilitate automated deployments.

• Configure infrastructure for build, test, release, and deployment pipelines.

• Implement automated infrastructure validation and deployment controls.

• Support various deployment strategies including blue/green and rolling deployments.

• Ensure AWS infrastructure adheres to federal security and compliance requirements.

• Configure IAM roles, policies, users, service accounts, and enforce least-privilege permissions.

• Implement encryption for data at rest and in transit.

• Assist in vulnerability remediation, patching, configuration compliance, and security scanning.

• Contribute to security documentation, System Security Plans, vulnerability assessments, POA&M remediation, audit evidence, and Authorization to Operate activities.

• Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational dashboards.

• Monitor availability, performance, capacity, utilization, and overall infrastructure health.

• Troubleshoot infrastructure and application hosting issues.

• Engage in root-cause analysis and incident resolution.

• Support production operations and scheduled maintenance activities.

• Develop runbooks, operational procedures, and troubleshooting documentation.

• Design infrastructure that is high-availability and resilient.

• Support backup, recovery, disaster recovery, recovery testing, and continuity exercises.

• Define and support Recovery Time Objectives and Recovery Point Objectives.

• Conduct capacity planning and infrastructure tuning.

• Recommend AWS instance types, storage configurations, scaling strategies, and service architectures.

• Identify opportunities for AWS cost optimization and support cost-management capabilities.

• Create and maintain infrastructure architecture diagrams and documentation.

• Participate in architecture and technical design reviews.

• Collaborate with application development, database, security, testing, and operations teams.

• Support government technical teams and stakeholders throughout design, implementation, troubleshooting, and operations.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, systems engineering, cloud engineering, or a related field.

• 3+ years of hands-on AWS experience supporting enterprise or mission-critical applications.

• Practical experience in building and supporting AWS infrastructure.

• Strong expertise with EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, CloudWatch, Route 53, Elastic Load Balancing, and Auto Scaling.

• Familiarity with AWS networking concepts including subnets, routing, security groups, gateways, and DNS.

• Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.

• Proficient in Linux administration.

• Skilled in scripting with Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar languages.

• Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines.

• Familiarity with Git or another enterprise source-control platform.

• Understanding of cloud security principles and least-privilege access.

• Experience troubleshooting infrastructure, network, security, and application-hosting issues.

• Excellent technical documentation skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

• Capability to work effectively with multidisciplinary technical teams.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust background investigation.

• Preferred: experience supporting FDA, HHS, or other federal government environments.

• Preferred: experience working in AWS GovCloud.

• Preferred: experience supporting FedRAMP-authorized cloud environments.

• Preferred: familiarity with FISMA and NIST SP 800-53 security requirements.

• Preferred: experience supporting Authorization to Operate processes.

• Preferred: experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, ECS, Fargate, Amazon RDS, AWS Systems Manager, AWS Secrets Manager, KMS, CloudWatch dashboards, automated alerting, enterprise monitoring tools, centralized logging platforms, Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions, AWS-native CI/CD tools, hybrid cloud environments, disaster recovery, vulnerability management, application modernization, or AWS migrations.

• Preferred certifications are desirable but not mandatory: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Security, HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate, CompTIA Security+ or equivalent.
