Associate Principal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Take the lead on essential investment workstreams and processes.

• Assist Partners and the Managing Partner in developing investment strategies that are driven by capabilities and market demands.

• Ensure that investments support the Ventures charter and are in line with SAIC’s enterprise, technology, and market entry priorities.

• Build and nurture relationships with co-investors, startups, and the wider innovation ecosystem.

• Manage commercial due diligence for startup investments and enhance collaborative opportunities both prior to and following investment.

• Oversee technical and business due diligence alongside finance and legal teams, focusing on deal terms, valuation, and strategic alignment.

• Develop investment strategies and deal-specific theses, secure stakeholder buy-in, and prepare materials for the investment committee.

• Act as the regional point of contact for engagement with the startup ecosystem, including VC, CVC, and startup networks.

• Work in conjunction with the STG team, business functions, and units to formulate investment theses and deal strategies.

• Link portfolio companies with SAIC subject matter experts and the larger Venture ecosystem.

• Facilitate value creation, network effects, and subsequent syndication efforts.

• Generate quarterly and ad hoc reports on portfolio performance and health.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of experience in roles at a startup or larger organization, focusing on technology, product, business development/go-to-market, or strategic functions.

• A strong enthusiasm for technology-driven startups and the necessary business and financial insight to contribute effectively to an investment team.

• Proficient in both qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.

• Excellent communication, active listening, critical thinking, teamwork, and presentation skills.

• An advanced degree in a relevant field is advantageous.

• Experience with or for a government agency or military setting is an added advantage.

• A robust network in dual-use commercial technology, national security-focused tech startups, and the broader innovation and investment landscape is highly desirable.
