Associate Director, Scientific Communications

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and ensure the timely execution of scientific communication plans for BioMarin’s programs related to Fabry disease and Pompe disease.

• Contribute to the creation and implementation of scientific messaging while maintaining the Scientific Communication Platforms.

• Ensure alignment across functions regarding messaging and strategies to address identified gaps.

• Acquire expert knowledge of literature specific to the product and disease, and oversee literature and gap analyses to support scientific message development and publication strategies.

• Organize and implement expert meetings essential for the development of publication strategies; collaborate with colleagues and external experts to formulate agendas and content, manage vendors, and attend and present as necessary.

• Facilitate the independent external development of treatment and management guidelines.

• Conduct research, draft, and edit scientific and medical manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations.

• Manage agency or contract medical writers and graphic designers as required.

• Ensure that all scientific communication outputs uphold the highest standards of medical and scientific integrity.

• Ensure that activities comply with authorship and publication guidelines as outlined by ICMJE and GPP 2022.

• Assist in maintaining and reconciling activities within the publication development database.

• Address internal and external inquiries regarding any scientific communications for the product areas.

• Participate in cross-functional team meetings to communicate the status of scientific communication planning and address any issues, while maintaining awareness of the overall scientific communication plan.

• Provide support for the management of the Scientific Communications budget.

⛳️ Requirements

• An advanced degree (MS or higher) in life or health sciences is required.

• A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in scientific communications, publication planning, and/or medical writing within a pharmaceutical company or medical writing agency is essential.

• At least 2 years of experience managing direct reports is preferred.
