Associate Director, Enterprise Data Governance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop, enable, and expand enterprise data governance and stewardship capabilities.

• Operationalize data stewardship within a decentralized governance framework.

• Convert governance strategy, policies, and regulatory requirements into effective, scalable business processes.

• Drive onboarding for business and data domains, promote stewardship adoption, and implement governance processes.

• Facilitate enterprise data discovery, transparency, and reuse through effective metadata management, data catalogs, and data marketplaces.

• Execute metadata management, curate business glossaries, and oversee stewardship workflows.

• Integrate governance processes across enterprise platforms and business operations.

• Establish trusted relationships and align stakeholders around common governance goals.

• Utilize automation and AI-driven capabilities to enhance stewardship efficiency and governance effectiveness.

• Set up, monitor, and report on governance KPIs, initiative progress, stewardship results, risks, and areas for improvement.

• Collaborate with platform owners, architects, and data teams on governance technologies, stewardship, metadata management, data quality, and compliance.

• Draft governance policies, standards, procedures, and operational models.

• Conduct stakeholder engagement sessions, governance working groups, and training initiatives.

• Guide and oversee managed service providers on various projects.

• Provide strategic guidance and direction to junior data governance personnel.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience in data governance, data stewardship, enterprise data management, or related fields.

• Proven experience as a data governance subject matter expert within a federated, matrixed, or enterprise-level operating model.

• Ability to influence outcomes and promote adoption without formal authority.

• Experience leading cross-functional governance initiatives that involve business, technology, and compliance stakeholders.

• Practical experience with enterprise data governance platforms such as Informatica, Atlan, Alation, or similar tools.

• Expertise in enabling and training data stewards, data owners, and business stakeholders.

• Knowledge of data classification, metadata management, data quality, and regulatory-compliant governance practices.

• Strong stakeholder management abilities across both business and technology sectors.

• Experience in leading, mentoring, or coordinating team members, managed service providers, or governance resources.

• Capability to translate governance strategy, policy, and regulatory requirements into practical, scalable operational processes.

• Preferred: Experience with governance platform implementations and stewardship adoption projects.

• Preferred: Strong facilitation skills for governance workshops, onboarding sessions, and working groups.

• Preferred: Experience supporting Data-as-a-Product operating models on Databricks and Snowflake.

• Preferred: Background in governing data within regulated environments, including GxP, clinical, R&D, or pharmaceutical sectors.

• Preferred: Experience in defining and reporting governance and stewardship KPIs to senior leadership.

• Preferred: Understanding of metadata, stewardship, and data quality capabilities related to analytics, AI, and business outcomes.

• Preferred: Relevant certifications such as CDMP, DGSP, DCAM, DAMA, or equivalent qualifications.
