Associate Director, Art – MCPG

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Oversee, guide, and art direct designers and freelancers.

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously for yourself and your team, ensuring deadlines are met while maintaining high design standards.

• Design and supervise all aspects of book packaging (covers, jackets, interiors), from initial concept to the final bound edition.

• Produce original, impactful cover concepts and refined final covers that are visually striking and innovative for the market.

• Perform in-depth research and suggest talented illustrators and photographers for diverse projects.

• Route materials for approval, uphold schedules and budgets, prepare files for production, and oversee the proofing process.

• Collaborate closely on book projects with the editorial team, creative director, and production department to ensure timely and effective fulfillment of material requests.

• Assist the Senior Art Director in enhancing departmental processes and establishing industry-leading best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in bookmaking, preferably in children's publishing.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in graphic design or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat), Google Suite, and Mac Platform.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Familiarity with print production processes.

• Strong understanding of color theory and design principles.

• A collaborative team player who welcomes constructive feedback and is eager to learn from and work with colleagues.

• Knowledge of and enthusiasm for the book publishing industry.
