Associate Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Represent clients in lawsuits filed in New York courts and manage other first-party insurance defense cases.

• Serve venues located in Queens, NY as part of the GEICO Staff Counsel team.

• Conduct legal research and draft legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.

• Provide assessments on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.

• Prepare and manage pleadings, motions, and discovery processes.

• Oversee depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.

• Defend assigned cases through trial or dispositive hearings, as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2 to 6+ years of experience in a relevant field, including litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.

• Juris Doctor degree is REQUIRED.

• Admission to the New York Bar is REQUIRED.

• Must hold a valid license in good standing to practice law in New York and fulfill all licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) obligations where applicable.

• Must be willing to travel as needed, including to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

• Must be capable of documenting files in a clear, concise, and professional manner.

• Must have the ability to follow intricate instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and demonstrate strong organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.

• Must be adept at learning and applying substantial amounts of technical and procedural information.

• Civil litigation experience is preferred.

• Experience in insurance defense-related litigation is preferred.

• Must be able to communicate professionally in person, by phone, and through written correspondence/email.
