Associate Attorney

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.

📋 Description

• Perform legal research and analysis to assist attorneys defending communities and the environment.

• Draft memos that summarize legal research for partners, particularly in Spanish.

• Contribute to pleadings and court filings, including Amicus Curiae briefs.

• Engage with partners to gain insights into their work.

• Present research findings through presentations as required.

• Develop legal resources for ELAW’s website and other shared platforms.

• Collaborate with ELAW attorneys and others to ensure partners receive the best possible information.

• Participate in committees and other initiatives to enhance ELAW.

• Assist with administrative responsibilities.

• Oversee various projects simultaneously while managing competing deadlines and priorities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Early career lawyer and recent law school graduate.

• Graduated from law school within the past five years.

• Holds a J.D. or equivalent law degree that qualifies for licensure in your jurisdiction.

• Licensed to practice law in your jurisdiction or willing to pursue bar membership or necessary qualifications to practice law.

• 1-5 years of relevant legal experience.

• Dedication to advancing ELAW’s mission.

• Capability to thrive in cross-cultural environments.

• Outstanding legal research, writing, and communication abilities.

• Strong organizational skills with the capacity to handle multiple tasks and competing deadlines.

• Ability to represent ELAW positively in various professional contexts.

• Capacity to work effectively within a small team as well as independently.

• Professional fluency in Spanish along with a solid working knowledge of English.

• Legal work experience in Latin America.

• Willingness to enhance team culture by sharing insights, seeking and offering feedback, and supporting colleagues.

• Openness to utilizing technology platforms that facilitate virtual collaboration.
