This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of daily investment accounting and reporting procedures across GAAP, STAT, Bermuda SFS, and EBS under the guidance of the VP.
• Ensure thorough, accurate, and timely processing of investment transactions, including purchases, sales, maturities, paydowns, coupon payments, repos, and securities lending.
• Supervise daily and monthly reconciliations of positions, trades, and cash within accounting records and the general ledger.
• Analyze and resolve discrepancies in income, positions, and valuations, supported by documentation and root-cause investigations.
• Conduct valuation governance activities, including fair value hierarchy assessments, stale price monitoring, pricing analysis, and documentation of overrides.
• Assist with materials, analyses, and follow-ups for the valuation committee.
• Ensure compliance with SOX and internal controls for investment accounting and reporting processes.
• Confirm that documentation, controls, and evidence align with audit and regulatory standards.
• Contribute to monthly closing packages and deliver analysis and commentary on investment performance by legal entity, accounting basis, and reinsurance agreements.
• Articulate accounting outcomes in clear terms for senior leadership, auditors, and regulators.
• Respond to audit requests promptly and accurately for investment portfolios.
• Promote ongoing enhancements in investment accounting operations, closing efficiency, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Utilize AI-driven tools and advanced analytics to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in investment accounting.
• Provide technical direction, mentorship, and coaching to accounting professionals.
• Oversee and direct offshore resources to ensure consistent execution of tasks.
• Coordinate workflows across teams to meet closing schedules and reporting deadlines.
• Encourage accountability, quality, and continuous improvement in alignment with Fortitude Re’s core values.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Over 8 years of accounting experience with a focus on investments.
• Proficient in fixed income, derivatives, mortgage loans, alternatives, and structured products.
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP, STAT, Bermuda SFS, and EBS reporting.
• Capability to manage large-scale investment portfolios accurately and efficiently.
• Experience overseeing high-volume reconciliations across custodians, managers, and general ledger systems.
• Leadership experience in designing SOX/internal controls and ensuring compliance for investment portfolios.
• Excellent communication skills with a background in presenting to executives, committees, auditors, and regulators.
• Proven track record in automation and AI implementation for high-volume reporting procedures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Familiarity with Clearwater Analytics for investment portfolios.
• In-depth technical knowledge in valuation governance, fair value leveling, stale price analysis, and pricing overrides.
• Ability to correlate results across legal entities, accounting bases, and reinsurance agreements to treaty economics and capital management.
• CPA certification is highly preferred.
• Experience in public accounting or with Big 4 firms, especially in insurance/reinsurance or investment client contexts, is preferred.
• Knowledge of SAP and Palantir is a plus.
