Area Sales Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Execute a diverse array of responsibilities related to the origination of residential mortgage loans for Financial Center offices and external referrals.

• Achieve the standards and goals established by management for personal mortgage loan sales and cross-selling initiatives.

• Take full responsibility for the residential mortgage loan process from application to closing for personal production.

• Oversee the overall production of the team and the daily management of each Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO).

• Collaborate effectively with Fulfillment Operations to enhance closed volume.

• Be responsible and accountable for risk by sharing ideas and concerns openly, and adhering to established policies and procedures.

• Commit to always acting in the best interest of customers and colleagues, ensuring that actions and behaviors foster a positive customer experience.

• Drive results by identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting various types of risks.

• Cultivate and nurture referral source relationships (including realtors, builders, and personal and professional contacts).

• Create a sales-oriented culture and environment within the team.

• Build and maintain relationships with Financial Center personnel to generate business and referrals.

• Stay informed about Fifth Third Mortgage Company's policies and procedures.

• Provide prompt, honest, and constructive performance feedback to team members.

• Manage a team of at least 5 MLOs.

• Oversee personal and team production through local and Bancorp reporting and KPIs.

• Conduct business plan reviews with the sales team.

• Develop strategic and tactical plans aimed at driving volume growth in the assigned area.

• Participate in sales calls alongside MLOs.

• Assist departmental management in identifying potential enhancements in systems and procedures.

• Ensure MLOs deliver exceptional customer service to external clients based on Gallup customer engagement data.

• Actively engage in ongoing initiatives to continuously improve customer service for both internal and external clients.

• Monitor compliance issues, ensuring that all loan originators attend mandatory meetings and adhere to state and federal regulations, as well as bank policies and procedures.

• Assess the quality levels of loan originators to ensure compliance with standards.

• Act as a liaison for loan issues with the processing manager and underwriting manager.

• Handle Human Resource functions for the team, including exception time reporting, performance reviews, coaching, performance management, commission administration, and identifying training needs.

• Recruit, hire, and train new loan officers.


⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

• 2-4 years of experience in residential mortgage sales is required.

• Comprehensive knowledge of conventional, government, and portfolio guidelines.

• Previous management experience is preferred.

• Familiarity with residential mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures.

• Understanding of federal lending regulations governing real estate lending.

• Proven leadership, organizational, teamwork, and customer service abilities.

• Capability to analyze policies, procedures, and guidelines to maximize productivity while managing risk levels.

• Proficient in sales techniques and sales coaching.

• Strong desire to excel in a competitive landscape.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities are essential.

• Exceptional verbal, written, presentation, people, and diplomacy skills are necessary.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and demonstrate flexibility.

• Proficient in Windows-based software applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Experience with mortgage origination systems and automated decisioning tools is required.

• Ability to inspire the team, work independently, manage multiple projects, operate well under pressure, and adapt to sudden changes in the work environment.

• This position requires S.A.F.E. Act registration at the time of employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS).
